Mario Garcia Torres
Born in 1975 in Mexico.
Lives and works in Los Angeles
Situated between the narrative and the concept, Mario Garcia Torres's approach makes use of reconstruction. His work takes form in the steps of the conceptual artists, favouring the essence of the work, its idea, over its accomplishment. The artist offers an amused and didactic re-reading of a section of contemporary artistic creation by questioning the problem of how a work of art is received in its historical context. He will exhibit, Until It Makes Sense at the Couvent des Jacobins, a handwritten sentence filmed for 60 seconds and projected over and over onto a wall of A4 format.
Between the incitement and the question, the work, as though in a state of suspension, invites us to reflect on the time needed for its apprehension and its display. By deduction, the work puts a perspective on every act and the constitution of the meaning of the act throughout time.
