Le Grand Cordel develops contemporary art awareness through projects at neighbourhood level working with local people, as well as the city and its various cultural actors. Le Grand Cordel is particularly keen to promote contemporary art projects in all their diversity. Priority is given to projects that link up with other facilities such as the Espace Culturel Multimédia and that provide opportunities for a wide-ranging public to encounter the artworks. Three or four projects are undertaken per year on themes that involve local associations and schools, as well as companies and local people.
